visit from family

not much crafting (or even cooking - gasp!) has been happening around here. we've been having lots of fun doing other things! we just dropped two of my sisters off at the airport this morning after their week-long visit with us. it was so much fun to introduce them to california, and it was fun for all of us to spend time with them! unfortunately, they became well-acquainted with the traffic on the california freeways...but i think we showed them a lot of great things about california too!

aunt laura dug a hole on the beach. our little one loved climbing in and out of it!

we went to another aquarium.

the aquarium made aunt evie hungry for seafood...so i got to eat crab for the first time (well...i've had it in crab cakes, but never straight out of the shell). our family of three shared one meal and we all got enough food!

aunt evie shared some corn with our little love.

we did some whale-watching. we saw three whales (including a mother and baby), seals, a lot of dolphins, and a whole bunch of birds. it definitely goes down as one of the highlights of this summer.

we spent an evening on the pier and beach.

our girl loves her daddy. and i love this photo. (except i can see it showing up in her wedding slideshow someday...waahhhh!)

we spent yesterday at the zoo. it was impressive. we rode the aerial tram. she kept saying, "up, up, up!"

a striking resemblance...

and we spent another evening on the beach. our girl walking with {two of} her aunts. she LOVED having them here and cried when we said goodbye to them at the airport. they thoroughly spoiled her.

and...just because i'm proud of this...i totally cheated and made these minion cupcakes for my nephew's birthday on saturday. he loves despicable me, and i knew i had to make these for him. my brother-in-law asked if they were whole-wheat twinkies. ha! they were a big hit and totally worth it. (i got the inspiration here).

my love is at a church meeting tonight. our little love is sleeping. i am enjoying some quiet time alone. i am definitely feeling a tug towards home these days. we will be heading that way in just a little over three weeks (another huge roadtrip!). we are going to soak up all we can here before then.
